Back to the Basic, Once Again --- by J.L. Model building is a continuous learning process. No matter how good your building skills becomes, there is always something new to learn. Want some more examples, pay attention this time, and here it goes.... An “award winning molder” who “know what he is doing” uses a lacquer based clear coat over a nicely built, out of production, TASCA Ford nostalgia drag car, with freshly applied decal’s, and perfectly painted, ENAMEL BASE PAINT! VIOLA, ruined model. Said modeler then throws entire model into a brick wall, and then into the trash. Two lessons learned. First , can you say; P-A-R-T-S B-O-X. Never, Never, Ever, toss perfectly good engines, tires, chassis, etc. into the trash. Even if you may not want anything to do with your “disaster”, there are plenty f scavengers who may need half of a part for another project and harassment incurred from fellow club members is unrelenting!!! Second, if you are not sure of how to do something... ASK someone who does. Bruce “DUTCH boy” Schultz, Mr. Paint hizownself, came to the rescue. With two phone calls, and a lot of questions, Bruce gave me enough knowledge to keep the above example from ever happening again. Well, hopefully. Point is - I screwed up on both accounts, I learned from my mistake (apparently not with the trashing-ed.), and I asked a lot of questions (after the fact). Bruce, THANKS! My next paint jobs have been looking much better. I will never mix lacquer and enarnel again. P.S. Chris, thanks for not telling anyone about this.
