"Angie Dickinson, of all people, suggested I meet her at Bob's Big Boy, of all places, for lunch. Had she suggested a fancy little bistro on Rodeo Drive, forget about it. But Angie Dickinson at Bob's Big Boy? That's like shooting craps with a duchess."

  1. I grew up in Glendale, attended Hoover High, and have fond memories of Friday nights after football games going to Bob's on Colorado Blvd. I lived in North Hollywood until 1994, when I moved to Portland, Oregon, which is something like Glendale was 50 years ago, where people are usually polite if you don't tske off right away when the light turns green, and folks put away their market baskets. Our home prices are coming back up here, but nothing like L.A. I'm coming down the first of October for my daughter's birthday, and hope to get a lunch at Big Boy while I'm there. By the way, I always loved Angie Dickinson.

  2. MY ANGIE DICKINSON STORY IS THIS, IN 1957 I AM IN THE NAVY IN
SAN DIEGO.ME AND TWO BUDDIES COME TO HOLLYWOOD TO CRASH SOME PARTIES,AND FIND SOME ACTION.WE HAD A BOTTLE OF RUM TO OFFER THE GUEST THAT ALLOWED US IN.MY FRIEND PHILLIP TROUT HAD THE BRIGHT IDEA THAT WE WOULD LISTEN FOR JAZZ TYPE MUSIC, GO TO THE DOOR AND SAY HARV -OR GENE ,SENT US AND SAY "YOU WILL KNOW IT BY THE NOISE,OFFER THE BOOZE AND IN WE WOULD GO..COME TO THINK OF IT AFTER ALL THESE YEARS THAT'S STILL A GREAT PARTY CRASHING LINE".EVERYBODY WAS ALL DRESSED TO THE 9S&10, GETTING READY TO GO TO ANOTHER PARTY. MEANWHILE THEY ARE ALL WATCHING THE MALIBU FIRE THROUGH FRED'S TELESCOPE...AND THERE'S ANGIE LOOKING "PIN UP PERFECT PRETTY ". SHE COMES OVER TO ME AND SAYS " OH YOUR IN THE NAVY IN SAN DIEGO, MAYBE YOU KNOW MY COUSIN, HIS NAME IS BLA BLA, AND HIS SHIP IS THE BLA.BLA. I SAID TO MY SELF ANGIE, DEAR ANGIE, THERE ARE ABOUT 5,000 GUYS HITING THE BEACH EVERY SATURDAY MORNING, THEY ALL WEAR THE SAME WHITE UNIFORMS,AND THEY ALL HAVE SHORT HAIR.BEING THE SOUTHERN GENTLEMAN THAT I AM, A AFFACINADO OF ANGIE, I SAID YEAH I THINK I DO KNOW THAT GUY..THEY LEFT,AND WE WENT TO ANOTHER PARTY..RAY ROE

  3. I was born and raised in Glendale. When I was little, my brother and I would ride our bikes to Bob's on Colorado Blvd. At that time the Drive In was round and in the south east corner of the Glendale lot. The car hops would take our order, bag it up for us and we would ride home. They were the best hamburgers and as little boys we craved them. I know I have eaten thousands of them in my life time. I now live out of the country but will visit Glendale and take my wife to Bob's in Glendale. We are looking forward to our stateside visit and Bob's.

  4. My first visit to Bob's was when I was at Franklin High School in Highland Park (1941) That was the place to go.
All the kids went there. Bob's then was in a converted
small house on Colorado Blvd. in Glendale. It had a "U" shaped counter. Great memories. I still go to Bob's in Northridge. Ca. Love it!
