BONO AND BOB's BIG BOY

Posted by Rory on Oct 22, 2009 under

Longtime LA Times music columnist, Richard Hilburn, describes his encounter with Bono on March 15th, 1981 following a U2 show at a country club in Reseda.

"And I sat down with Bono shortly after that show, and he wanted to go to Bob's Big Boy.. in Toluca Lake.. because he heard about car hops and things in California. And he had this curiousity about American culture..."

I have a "Big Boy" doll that is not a bank. I says 1973 on the bottom of its foot. When I look at websites for its value, I see only "Big Boy Banks." They look just like this doll, but this is simply a doll - not a bank. It has "Big Boy" written in cursive on chest instead of the printed version. Where can I find out its value? Thanks!

    FYI,
When my buddy and I crossed the country in 1958 in a 1955 T-Bird, the first thing we did was go to Hollywood & Vine to see all the movie stars. Unfortunately, as most visitors found out, there weren't any.
So we heard about BOB's Big Boy and off we went to Bobs to check it out, and we were hooked on the place. Every night we would alternate between the one in Glendale and the one in Burbank and have our nightly pair of English muffins and coffee and check out the cars and chicks.
One night while there I met a girl named Linda Hollowell and the rest is history, we have out anniversary dinner every year at Bob's for the last 50 years or so and love to visit on Friday nights for all the hot rods.
    Thanks for everything!!
